Discover Bong County

Bong County was created in 1964. The capital is Gbarnga, named after an old farm in the location. Gbarnga was used by Charles Taylor as the base for his rebellion against the Presidency of Samuel Doe in the early 1990s.

Bong County is an ideal vacation destination, especially if you enjoy the sound of water. The State of Maryland along with Bong County & Maryland County, in August 2007 signed an MOU creating a Sister State relationship. Through this partnership, opportunities in business, industry, art, culture, education, health, and tourism became possible for all parties involved. The Wongan waterfall lies on the northern bank of a village in Boisien, Kokoyah Statutory District, Bong County. From the town, it is accessible via a footpath that is a 55-minute hike.
