How can you get around Liberia?

There are no public buses in Liberia and renting a car that you drive yourself is both uncommon and expensive. However, it can get quite crowded in the taxi, often with six passengers stuffed in the taxi. You can pick up these taxis from parking stations in markets such as Red Light and Douala, among other locations.

Another option for long distance travel and travel within Monrovia is to hire a private taxi. To find a reputable taxi service, ask your hotel or guest house for a number of a taxi company or individual. Traveling within Monrovia is about $10 USD for one trip. There is also the option to hire a private vehicle and driver for the duration of the stay, however this is a much more expensive option. In Liberia, you will also find ‘KeKes’, or motor rickshaws, which can be utilized similar to taxis. Both taxis and KeKes only accept cash.
